I first found out about the Tyler Robinson Foundation a couple weeks ago while preparing for the Build Your Blog Conference. Since then it has been on my mind a lot. The TRF is about pediatric cancer. As I was talking to some representatives of TRF I shared a little about Haley’s story, they then called me a cancer mom. The funny thing is that is a title I obviously never wanted but also never connected with myself until then.

I love that the TRF helps pediatric cancer families in big and small ways. They help families on an individual basis with cars, heating oil and more. I love that they also realize the importance of fun money. With the stress of cancer it is therapeutic to go do something fun like watching a movie without worrying about the cost.

As a cancer mom I know what it is like to have a doctor tell me my 2 year old has a rare condition that needs surgery today or tomorrow.

I know what it is like for the Neurosurgeon to tell me my 2 year old will need chemo 6 weeks after each surgery.

I know what it is like to feel the need to fix the problem without thinking about the cost.

Because…

In that moment it doesn’t matter.

In that moment I want my 2 year old to be fine…to be a normal kid.

In that moment I will do whatever it takes.

I know what it is like to sit for days in the PICU hoping and praying that she will somehow be fine while occasionally thinking how much are you charging me when each new person comes in to check on her and run more tests.

I know what it feels like a couple months down the road when those bills come piling in.

I know what it is like to look at the bills and think the operating room cost was more then our 2 cars.

I know what it is like to have one follow up appointment after another and then knowing exactly how much the next MRI will cost because it is so common to my now 4 year old.

I am happy the TRF is here for families like myself. None of us wanted to have a child with cancer. When it happens, we do everything for our kids and deal with the financial consequences later.
