This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Carton Smart for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. Holiday’s are a time for traditions. My Little Chefs keep track of all the traditions we HAVE to do each year to make it a great holiday. A lot of our traditions include a lot of time spent in the kitchen which then means a lot of dishes and a lot of garbage including many metal cans. This holiday season TetraPak wants to wants to inspire people to make smart, small decisions when cooking for their families and stocking their pantries. No matter what you are making, pumpkin pie, green bean casserole or cranberry sauce, did you know all these ingredients are … [Read more…]

Haley had a rough night. They had to wake her up every hour to get her to do things like talk and move. Jeremy stayed here with her. I was with the baby who didn’t sleep much better. Jeremy went to my parents home to hopefully try to get some rest. Thankfully Haley has been sleeping very well since coming back from another MRI she had this morning. I would love to see the before MRI and this MRI side by side. In fact we want to get a copy just to show her when she is older. She might be interested to know how strong she was at 2 years old. She does not like being attached to everything. She does not realize it is necessary. One of the lines was taken out this morning. We love the small … [Read more…]

We thought it would be fun to create a few how to videos from the viewpoint of my Little Chefs. We did a few last year and wanted to try it again. Some of our friends thought it was a lot of fun watching my Little Chefs crack an egg and shape a roll. My kids do love to cook and they really do love to create. This is the first video, How To Measure Dry Ingredients. It will be a great chance to see them in action and to get to know them a little more. Some of these videos may not be the official way to work in the kitchen. We will show you what works best for the Little Chefs in my house. Our hope is that you or your Little Chefs will want to give it a try. Sometimes seeing someone do … [Read more…]

How do I select an artichoke? The best way to choose an artichoke is to pick them up and ask yourself three questions. Is it heavy? You want to select the heaviest. When I squeeze it is it hard? You want the firmest with tight leaves that do not appear wrinkly or dehydrated. What color is it? The bright green color is best. If it is slightly purple it is overripe. If there are brown patches or white sports the artichoke has been exposed to colder temperatures and frost. This will not affect the taste in a negative way. What are the sizes of an artichoke? Jumbo = softball Large = baseball Medium = tennis ball Baby = golf ball How do I keep an artichoke as fresh as … [Read more…]

It’s that time of year again where we are ready for a good Cleaning House Spring Cleaning – deep clean the house, reorganize the drawers, rotate the closets……everything must be cleaned and organized or donated – this will be our mind-set for the next couple weeks!! The typical Spring Cleaning House used to be a pretty painless Saturday chore. However, now with 3 Little Chefs running around wanting to help out or making messes faster than I can keep things clean, I had to rethink the way to Cleaning House…..If I can’t beat’em to the cleaning – I want them to join ME! Here are some of our tips we have come up with to help involve our Little Chefs in keeping our home clean and help … [Read more…]

Upon reflecting this year cooking with my Little Chefs here are a few things I have learned: Never have a set time for dinner, you will ALWAYS run late. Measure all ingredients out into separate bowls BEFORE adding to the main bowl. Review, review, review. For each skill taught review and reteach over and over again. When Little Chefs choose the recipes they are more excited to make them and eat them. Explore different flavors and tastes, especially those YOU do not like. Let the Little Chefs make up their own minds without prejudice. Try, try again. The more exposure they get to new foods the more daring they will become. Have fun! Cooking with kids is about the process more … [Read more…]
