With school out and Summer is here – We have more time in the mornings to make lots of fun things for breakfast. We LOVE breakfast, and we needed some more ideas to mix things up from the typical pancakes, waffles, and french toast. I asked what the Little Chefs wanted for breakfast, on the first day out of school – and their response – pizza. The Little Chefs were so surprised when I agreed that pizza would be a great idea…..that is Breakfast Pizza. To make our Breakfast Pizza, we just used up items we had in the house, well actually the cabin. When we made this recipe we were up in the mountains at Grandma and Grandpa’s cabin, one of our favorite places to go – spending some much … [Read more…]

My Little Chefs LOVE to camp and to also spend time with Grandma and Grandpa up at their cabin. There is nothing quite like the outdoors – playing (REAL playing – with rocks, sticks and A LOT of dirt), roasting marshmallows on the fire, taking hikes, spending quality time with friends and family!! One of our favorite things to do while at the cabin and while camping is cook with our Dutch Ovens. What makes the food amazing is not only the taste, and the simplicity, but the experience in making the food. Grandpa gets everything set up and  prepare the coals, as we sit and wait  – we all get to play, talk and hang out with Grandpa.  The Little Chefs help prepare the food in the Dutch Ovens … [Read more…]

Yesterday we posted a fun summer activity – we made Cardboard Box Cars! The Little Chefs then “drove” their cars to their own drive-in movie!!  What did we need to go with our drive-in movie adventure? Drive In Food!! We found these great little, disposable tin containers that include a lid at the dollar store, in a package of 3. They were all excited to have their very own, even though they were identical! We decided it would be great to compartmentalize the food using paper cupcake liners and a brown paper sack cut down to size. The paper bag we of course filled with popcorn! What is a movie without popcorn?!   What I liked best about creating our own compartments is we were able … [Read more…]

My Little Chefs love to dip anything and everything, especially Little Chef H! I can get her to eat anything if there is a dip to go with it. Today we are sharing with you a Yogurt Fruit Dip with only 4 ingredients. Little Chef A and C worked together for this recipe. They are realizing with a little team work recipes can be made even faster! I like that too! Little Chef A measured out the yogurt then passed the measuring of the sour cream to Little Chef C.   Little Chef A sprayed the Tablespoon with a nonstick spray before measuring out the honey. This is a trick we absolutely love. The honey slides out into the bowl easily and is simple to clean up.  Lastly, she added the … [Read more…]

There is something about Butterscotch in an Oatmeal Cookie that is just delicious! The other night we needed to make a quick treat to take over to a neighbor’s home. The Little Chefs were looking through all our recipes to try to find something new or something they had not made for a while. They came across this Butterscotch Oatmeal Cookies recipe, and they all insisted that just had to make this recipe, even though we had just made a batch of them last week!! And yes, the entire batch was already gone.  These cookies are so delicious – don’t be surprised if your cookies disappear as quickly as ours did!! This recipes has been filled in our favorites for some time. You would think that … [Read more…]

Do you have Little Chefs like me who love a variety of snacks, but who do not like them to mix? My Little Chefs have a hard time choosing just one snack. When we are traveling my goal is to keep them happy. Whatever it takes seems to be our motto on a long road trip. Today we are sharing our Triple Travel Snack Bag that Little Chef H could not put down. This is very simple to construct yet it yields great results. Ingredients 1 locking quart bag 3 locking sandwich bags duct tape – your choice of color scissors Directions Cut two pieces of duct tape just short of the width of the sandwich size bag. The duct tape is about 1″ wide. Cut both in half so that it is about … [Read more…]

Memorial Day is all about grilling! To our family usually it is the beginning of a warm summer and school coming to an end. This year it still means the beginning of summer and grilling season, school however is another matter. This is a great hands on recipe for Little Chefs. Little Chef A was able to prepare the patties ALL by herself! Combine all the ingredients; ground chuck, kosher salt, pepper, onion powder, grated smoked gouda and worchestershire sauce.   Form the patties using your bread as a guide to the size.  Little Chef A had a GREAT time with this task! She was very careful and made sure each patty had an indentation in the middle so it didn’t puff up as much when … [Read more…]

Summer picnic season is just around the corner. Outdoor BBQ’s, hamburgers and hot dogs, kids playing in the sprinklers, and plenty of Potato Salad. We made this Potato Salad from our Grandma’s recipe. She pretty much makes the perfect Potato Salad (Wow, that was a lot of “P” words!). Grandma uses good old russet potatoes in her Potato Salad. We however, had red potatoes on hand, so that is what we used in our recipe this time – and we liked it just as much!! Little Chef K rinsed all the potatoes and put them in the pot to start cooking. It took a while, because these were smaller potatoes and she was cleaning each one very well and placing them ever so careful. She is such a good Little … [Read more…]
