This is one of Chef Dad’s and Chef Grandpa’s favorite kind of cake. That being said, we needed to come up with a really good recipe that would “take the cake” with Chef Grandpa and Chef Dad. This German Chocolate Cake recipe has a rich chocolate cake, with a creamy oh-so-delicious frosting. The trick to this cake, it to make it at least one day before you will be eating, wait…lets not kid ourselves….devouring this cake! This recipe is, and we quote from Chef Grandpa, “the BEST German Chocolate Cake I’ve ever had”. The Little Chefs first mixed up the cake – and yes we did use a cake mix, but made it ohhh sooo much better!! We added a few more ingredients, then poured the cake batter … [Read more…]

Summer is here, which means many BBQ’s, family reunions and picnics. In needing a side dish for a family picnic, we decided to make up one of the Little Chefs favorite fruit dips. Our Orange Fruit Dip is so delicious and perfect for picnics on  the hot summer days. It is very refreshing, and you can make it up to 2 days ahead of time – which is great when some summer days are all play and no work (including cooking!). This Orange Fruit Dip also is so incredibly easy, the Little Chefs whipped it up in less than 5 minutes!! The Little Chefs first blended the softened cream cheese till nice and smooth. Then they added in the marshmallow creme, which can seem like a very sticky task. However, … [Read more…]

This recipe came from my Grandma. I remember helping her make this popcorn when I was young, and she teaching me how to get the candy coating to “soft ball stage”. I then remember this being the best popcorn ever made. I have never made this popcorn since I was was young, which seems like forever ago. And I was thinking about her the other day, and all the memories I had spending time with her.  So I wanted to share a memory I have of my grandma with my Little Chefs, and make with them this Old Fashioned Candied Popcorn. My grandma would always make it pink, but since the 4th of July is right around the corner, I thought we would make Patriotic Old Fashioned Candied Popcorn! The Little … [Read more…]

Let the Summer Begin!! Are you still trying to put together a program for your kids to keep them learning and active during the summer? Well look no further. Have you ever wondered what happens when you mix sprinklers, sidewalk chalk and my Little Chefs?……… Hours of Fun with Sidewalk Chalk and colorful creations that don’t just end up on the sidewalk – it ends up everywhere! On one hot afternoon, Chef Dad was outside working in the yard and fixing sprinkler problems that caused a flood in our basement last winter (and that story would be an entire blog post on its own!!!) The Little Chefs decided they wanted to run through the sprinklers –  so on went their swimsuits. And now looking back, I am so glad they changed their clothes – most of the time they start running through the sprinklers in whatever they have on! As the sprinkler fun … [Read more…]
