We have been practicing how to spell color words with our color songs. The next step is to use manipulatives as part of our active learning. A common toy or object combined with printables for kids transforms learning into fun. Use these Color Sight Word Worksheets for Kids and pipe cleaners to reinforce how to spell color words with touch.

Studies have shown that we learn better when we are using our senses. The information you are learning is processed with more connections and associations to one concept when you use your senses. We also know that everyone learns differently. My Haley learns well through music which is why I shared the color songs. Today I’m showing you how to use touch to learn to spell color words with printables for kids.
I have created printables for the common colors; white, red, green yellow, blue, orange pink, purple, brown and black. Each printable color worksheet has only one word per page. The outline of the word is in the color of the word. The word red is outlined in red. This is to reinforce the correct color while also teaching how to spell red.
Use the same color pipe cleaner as the color word to spell the word. If you are working on spelling red, use red pipe cleaners. Bend and twist however you need to shape the pipe cleaner to fit inside each letter forming the letter. Sometimes two pipe cleaners are necessary.
What if this is too hard? You can cut the pipe cleaners into smaller lengths and then use many small pipe cleaners to create one letter.
When you are finished creating each letter take your fingers and trace the pipe cleaner letters as you spell the word out loud.

Make sure you print off the Color Sight Word Worksheets for Kids. Laminate each worksheet or put them in plastic sheet protectors to prolong their usability.
White Red
Green Yellow
Blue Orange
Pink Purple
Brown Black
Don’t forget to pin it for later if you don’t need this today. It’s such a fun activity to learn color sight words. Let me know how this works for you in the comments!
