I am so excited to be working with Christmas in Color this year. The creators from the Midway Ice Castles have made something else spectacular this year called Christmas in Color. It is a mile long light show in Kearns, Utah created by world-renowned lighting artist and Utah native Richard Holdman.

The location is literally right next to the Olympic Oval in an empty lot. When we showed up we were asked if we had tickets before getting in line. It is very important to buy your tickets online at Christmas in Color before you arrive. Tickets are sold in 30 minute time increments. You may show up any time within that 30 min time slot. They will remind you to turn to the correct radio station to hear the music designed for the show. Once we got to the lights and the kids realized the lights and the music work perfectly together they were mesmerized.

My kids could not stop pointing out the drummers, angels, ice skaters and everything else they saw. After we were halfway through they wanted to know how the lights and the music could work together so perfectly. Since their Dad is a computer programmer he jumped on the chance to talk to them about computers.

Aisle after aisle everyone was completely enthralled. Some of our favorites were the tunnels because of how the lights moved through them, the ice skaters, huge trees, penguins, water jumping, and my 2 year old loved the “dragon”.

To get my kids excited for the drive, because sometimes they are not, I made an easy christmas snack mix. This was the easiest preparation and the most fun for them to eat. I added an even amount of:

  • Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers – Holiday Fun Colors – red/green
  • Skittles Holiday Mix – red/green colors
  • Sweetarts Merry Mix – with trees, bells and snowmen
  • Twizzlers Bites
  • Marshmallows

Then I packaged them up in plastic container with screw lids so they wouldn’t accidentally fall off. When we got in the car I gave them each a snack container and a bottle of water. They were happy on the drive there and home. They were not interested in their snack while we were driving through Christmas in Color, but that is fine. I wanted to make the entire trip enjoyable and sometimes new foods or foods packaged in a different way is the trick.
