To form equal pretzels take the dough out of the bowl and cut it in two equal parts. I like to use a pizza cutter, one of my favorite kitchen tools!

Cut each half into two equal parts again. Now you should have 4 equal parts.

Cut the 4 parts into half again. Now you should have 8 equal parts.

Teaching Moment: If you are cooking with you kids this is a great time to teach them about division because they can visualize it.

Steps to Form Soft Pretzels

Forming the pretzels is a little scary, but remember no matter what the pretzels look like they will taste delicious!

  1. Take one of the 8 parts and form it into a snake that is about 24 inches long. To do this flatten the dough with the palm of your hand then roll it up tightly to form a small snake. Apply a little pressure to the dough as you roll it forward and backward. Be sure to keep both hands in the same exact motion or the snake will tear.
  2. Holding the two ends form a “U”.
  3. Cross the ends over one another. 
  4. Bring the ends directly down and attach to the bottom of the “U”.
